This project for a major Care Home operator, sought to expand their existing Nursing Home facility to provide a new single storey, sixteen apartment sheltered housing facility on the site of a former bowling green within the grounds of the Home, with a mixture of one and two bedroom units. The Local Authority were quite surprisingly very keen to see a contemporary and sustainable design using green roof technology. Planning Permission was granted in September 2008, and enacted in 2010 to preserve the consent until such a time that the Client considers the new unit to become viable.
The enactment of the consent required an element of archaeological fieldwork with strip trenches dug both in the area of the new building, where future excavations would take place for foundations, and in the area of a new car park, in order to satisfy pre-commencement planning conditions.
