Carlton House, Southampton, Hampshire
Client: Valfex Limited
Contract Value: £1.8 million
Services: RIBA Stages 0 to 7-Inception through to Completion and Use.
Status: Completed.

Description:

This project involved the conversion of an existing concrete framed office building in the centre of Southampton into luxury student accommodation comprising of 16, 4 bedroom, self contained apartments. Two Bar/Night Clubs on the ground floor necessitated the development of an acoustic solution and construction detailing by the Acoustic Consultant (Sandy Brown Associates) and ourselves, to overcome the concerns of the Environmental Health Officer, of residential accommodation above these sources of loud music. A ‘box within a box’ technique was adopted to result in a controlled music level of 95dB being inaudible in the apartments, proved by post completion testing prior to occupation.

Planning Permission was granted in early October 2012, and the construction works were completed in June 2013. All of the apartments have been let, with the first students moving in at the beginning of July.
